Disc
Golf Genève, the local club and host of the Swiss Open 2008
was founded in 2001 by some players, who have been playing
mainly Ultimate, but also wanted to promote Disc Golf in the
parc des Evaux.

There has been disc golf activity in the parc since 1992,
but up to the installation of the permanent course, they
have used an obstacle-course only. Since 2002 score-cards
and discs are avaiable with the "centre sportif des
Evaux" and many people just come by and play.
International Tournament at Geneva
Since the installation of the course, an international
tournament was organized every year. Organized by the
discgolf-promotor Urs Handte, who also was the initiator of
the course, the event was first know as the "European
Masters". With the handover to the local club, the
event continued under the same name until a name change was
forced due to the raise of the PDGA-major "European
Open". 2007 the tournament was held as the "Geneva
Open".
Many years back, the Swiss Open was the first international
event in Switzerland. First held in Bern, later in Gstaad.
After the event in Gstaad was closed, the title "Disc
Golf Swiss Open" was no more in use. With the decision,
that the tournament in Geneva shall represent the country at
the international level (PDGA EurTour), now the title "Disc
Golf Swiss Open" has been given to the Geneva event.
Meanwhile, Switzerland received a second event within the
PDGA EuroTour (Bern Open).
Mid- to long-term, the Disc Golf Swiss Open shall receive a
PDGA A-tier status. It is the focus of the organizing
committee and the hosting club, to increase the quality of
the event continously by improving all level of the
organization.
